Transition Information Network Seminar

The 5th Oska Bright Film Fesitival
22nd - 24th November 2011
Brighton Domes Corn Exchange

Oska Bright is an international and award winning film festival, managed and delivered by a committee of learning disabled artists.  Over the three days, we'll be showcasing films by learning disabled film makers from across the globe.

Open Praise Project

The project is 1 hour of sensory activity based around bible stories, running for 6 weks.  The aim is to use the church in a practical way and to give carers a bit of respite.

Content of the course has been devised by Katie Love, who currently works for the Federation of Disabled People and has over 6 years experience of working with disabled people including learning disabilities.  Co-writing the content is Jamie Fyfe, who is training to be a psychiatric nurse after 5 years experience working with people with challenging behaviour and learning disabilities.  

The first course starts on the 10th November and the second on the 15th December.  It is held every Thursday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm at Holland Road Baptist Church, Hove.

Would you like to join the Carousel Singers?  Are you aged 15-26?  Do you like working as part of a group?

A chance to be part of an exciting new project!    Carousel, Glyndebourne Opera and Pallant House Gallery are working together on a major new performance project called Gold Run and the Carousel Singers will be part of it!  Singers will need to be able to travel to central Brighton for evening rehearsals once a week.  There will be no charge to take part.

The Federation of Disabled People is piloting a new noticeboard scheme on its website to provide lists of PAs looking for work and DP Users looking for PAs.  For more information please click here... 



Online Basics

Online basics, a new free course designed to help thousands of offline adults take their first steps with computers and the internet.

Online basics, which is available free of charge at www.onlinebasics.co.uk, offers five modules covering the basics people need to know to get going online - from keyboard and mouse skills thorugh to email, internet searching and how to stay safe on the internet.  The site also provides access to guidance from people helping someone to use the course, such as tutors in learning centres of family and friends supporting someone at home.  In this way, Online basics is open to everyone.

Housing Options

Housing Options is a national charity that leads in promoting better housing options for people with learning disabilities and works to influence policy that promotes greater choice and inclusion.  Housing Options runs the national Housing Advice service for people with learning disabilities, their families and Housing Options members.
